Makes me smile .... I have tried planting in my patio garden, they do pretty well here(except summers of course) My favs are the rust and the burgundy ....it is so gorgious here, I am getting 'fall fever' :)
Yes, I have bought mums so many times and planted them in the ground. They never come back. I have bought, hardy mums, garden mums, and asked at a nursury last year if they were the kind that came back. They didn't.

I have not seen a good mum plant yet to purchase- I like yours- such a nice Fall color!!!
